Debo biomass gasification coupled power generation technology shared at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference
On December 4th, 2023, the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) "China Corner" and "China Carbon Market Development and Outlook" side meetings were held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. China Huadian Xiangyang Power Plant, representing Chinese key emission units, was invited to exchange energy-saving and carbon reduction cases of thermal power units at a roundtable forum.
Mr. Jiajun Wang, Chairman of Huadian Xiangyang Power Generation Co., Ltd., introduced the company's efforts in addressing climate change to the international community from four aspects: "actively participating in the construction of Chinese carbon market", "exploring new paths such as biomass coupled power generation based on traditional coal-fired power emission reduction technologies", "increasing the proportion of clean energy installed capacity", and "actively practicing ecological carbon sequestration actions" A series of innovative measures and practical actions to promote low-carbon development. This vividly showcases the outstanding achievements of China Huadian's grassroots thermal power enterprises in green and low-carbon development, contributing more "Huadian solutions" to China's carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and addressing global climate change. It also focuses on the biomass gasification coupled coal-fired power generation technology of Xiangyang Power Plant.

COP (Conference Of The Parties) is the highest decision-making body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, as well as a global leader and participant in climate change issues. It is the annual most important international stage for politicians, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, entrepreneurs, mainstream media, and others to voice, showcase, and act on. Convene annually the contracting countries of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to discuss how to jointly address climate change issues. Nowadays, COP has become the largest and most influential climate related conference in the world. China Huadian Xiangyang Power Plant has adopted Debo biomass gasification coupling power generation technology and successfully constructed China's first biomass gasification coupling power generation project mainly using agricultural and forestry waste as the main raw material. The sharing and promotion of this technology is of great significance for promoting global response to climate change and promoting sustainable development. At the same time, it also provides new ideas and directions for China's development in the field of renewable energy, and provides strong support for achieving the "3060" goal.

Xiangyang City is located in the hinterland of the Han River middle reaches plain. It is one of the 20 large-scale commodity grain production bases in China, one of the top ten summer grain production areas, and one of the three sesame production areas. The agricultural production conditions are superior, and the biomass raw materials are abundant.
Huadian Xiangyang Power Plant currently has 4 330000 kW and 2 640000 kW wet cooled pure condensing units, which are important power supply support points in the northwest of Hubei Province. The company has launched technological innovation in biomass coupled large-scale coal-fired power generation by leveraging the advantages of existing clean and efficient coal-fired power systems and a centralized pollution control platform, taking advantage of its existing assets.

This technology crushes (blocks) and gasifies biomass raw materials into large power plant boilers to replace coal, fully utilizing the existing resources of the power plant to build a large circulating fluidized bed gasification device that is suitable for various types of mixed biomass. It realizes the gasification and utilization of agricultural and forestry waste such as rice husks, straw blocks, wood chips, sawdust, and mushroom sticks. The installed capacity is 10.8 MW, and the annual power supply can reach 55 million kilowatt hours, Consuming approximately 50000 tons of biomass agricultural and forestry waste, saving approximately 18000 tons of standard coal annually, and reducing approximately 50000 tons of carbon dioxide annually. The solid residue after gasification is plant ash, which is an important raw material for composite organic fertilizers and is beneficial for agricultural circular economy.

The promotion and application of Debo biomass gasification coupled power generation technology will help promote the transformation and optimization of the global energy structure, and promote sustainable development. At the same time, the use of biomass waste as fuel in this project also provides new ways and choices for China to achieve the "3060" target. By promoting and applying this technology, we can reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuels, reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and achieve a win-win situation between economic development and environmental protection.
